Jupiter: Earth's big brother

Jupiter: Earth's big brother

Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system, stands as Earth’s big brother, protecting our planet while inspiring awe with its grandeur. This gas giant, with a diameter 11 times that of Earth, is a celestial marvel that influences the solar system in profound ways.

Jupiter has some of striking features like:

1. A giant red spot a.k.a Great Red Spot that is even larger than Earth itself. It is a violent storm that has been on going more than 200 years.

2. Jupiter is covered with bands of color which are strips of storms covering its surface.

Why is it called the Big Brother?

The reason Jupiter is called Earth's big brother is because it has been protecting Earth from asteroids for almost forever. Jupiter being the largest planet also has the largest gravitational and magnetic field. Thus, whenever there's any object approaching Earth, Jupiter's gravity deflects it and pulls it towards itself. Thus Jupiter protects Earth like a big brother.

The planet that almost became a Star:

Jupiter was the first planet to form in the solar system. It almost became a star but fell short of mass, yet its heavy enough that Sun and Jupiter orbit around a common epicenter instead of Jupiter oribiting the Sun.

    A Gateway to the Cosmos

Exploration missions like Juno are unlocking Jupiter’s secrets, giving us a glimpse into the origins of our solar system and the dynamics of giant planets.

Jupiter isn’t just a distant giant; it’s an integral part of Earth’s story—a celestial protector, a source of wonder, and a symbol of the mysteries that lie beyond
